Frequently Asked Questions
About Viafill™
What is Viafill™?
Viafill™ is a disposable kit that is used in the aspiration, harvesting, filtering, and reinjection of autologous fat tissue. The Viafill™ System offers significant advantages over other dermal fillers and fat transfer methods.
What is it indicated for?
The Viafill™ Fat Transfer System is indicated for the aspiration, harvest, filtration, and reinjection of autologous fat.
Does it have FDA clearance?
The Viafill™ Fat Transfer System received 510(k) clearance from the FDA in December 2008.
What makes Viafill™ different from other dermal fillers?
Viafill™ differs from synthetic fillers because it uses autologous fat for dermal filling. For more information about Viafill™ versus other dermal fillers, please see the About Viafill™ section.
How does the Viafill™ System differ from other methods of autologous fat transfer?
The Viafill™ System uses gentle, manual aspiration rather than mechanical aspiration when harvesting fat cells. A patented transfer system and Viafill™ centrifuge were designed to minimize damage to fat cells and increase the number of viable cells available for transplantation. Lipose™ Corp. has designed a centrifuge that fits on a countertop and provides the ideal force (50 g) and time (2 minutes) to filter and compact fat with the least amount of cell trauma. Furthermore, the bottom layer of centrifuged fat, which contains the largest number of viable cells, is not disturbed by manual decanting or wicking of oil, which allows more viable cells to be injected. A larger volume of viable cells may lead to improved results. For more information, please see the About Viafill™ section.
What types of fat transfer is Viafill™ most suited for?
The Viafill™ System can be used wherever physicians would use autologous fat transfer. These areas often include chin, nose, neck, jaw line, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, brow, upper eyelids, temples, lips, hands, breasts, buttocks, and other contour irregularities.
Do you anticipate other applications for fat harvested by the Viafill™ System beyond dermal filling?
Other potential uses for fat transfer may include:
- Vocal cord suspension
- Bladder neck suspension
- Correction of contour after radical neck dissections
- Correction of contour after breast reconstruction
- Penile enlargement
- G-spot sensitization
The Viafill™ Fat Transfer Procedure
What are the instructions for using Viafill™?
Please click on Directions for Using Viafill™ for detailed instructions on using the Viafill™ System.
How do I use the syringe?
The Viafill™ System includes a manual aspiration syringe and an injection syringe. Please click on Directions for Using Viafill™ for detailed instructions on using the Viafill™ System.
Do I always have to use the smaller, 1-cc syringe for re-injection?
No, you can use ether the 1-cc or 20-cc syringe for reinjection. Preference may be dictated by the fill volume necessary.
How long does the procedure take?
The process, not including fat reinjection, takes less than 15 minutes.
How long do the results last?
Live fat injections are a graft that may be permanent based on the number of live cells injected and the ability to establish a blood supply.
Are there side effects?
As with any surgical procedure, there is potential risk for infection, bleeding, and less than expected beneficial outcome. Because Viafill™ uses the patient’s own tissue, there are no allergic or foreign-body reactions to be concerned about. No skin testing is necessary. The only side effects that may occur are local injection site reactions common to any injection procedure.
Do I need to sterilize the equipment?
No, all components of the Viafill™ Sytem are disposable. The Viafill™ centrifuge should be wiped down with a damp cloth after use.
Can I use this system to remove undesirable fat and for dermal filling?
The Viafill™ System should only be used for the aspiration, harvesting, filtering, and transferring of autologous fat tissue.
